Does the thought of losing everything on your computer make you feel a little ill?

Time, memories and irreplaceable business information would be lost if your computer hard drive corrupted today. So how many of us back up our computer regularly? Very few businesses perform a regular scheduled backup process. The percentage is even lower for home users.

I can assure you that we regularly see people looking very unhappy because they have lost deceased family members’ photos forever or critical business files.

We all have good intentions about backing up, but our busy lives get in the way and unfortunately most of us think “A hard drive failure won’t happen to me!”

So what can you do to take out the requirement to be disciplined about running a backup process?

The solution is simple — install backup software. Backup software performs the following tasks:

* Allows you to set up the backup to run automatically at a set time every day, maybe even hourly. The more information that is added to the system, the greater the risk of loss (lost data, lost time and lost effort). Overnight backups, that take a long time to run, may suit if the data can fit on one tape or external backup drive.

* Allows you to specify those important files and folders you require to be saved to your backup device (e.g. external hard drive, USB stick, tape drive). If you’re about to do your first major backup, this is a great time to declutter, making it easy to find files and reducing the size of the backup.

* Offers you three different ways to back up the files:

1. Full: This will copy all of the files on your hard drive.

2. Incremental: This will only update the files on the backup device with any changes you have made to files…
